Re: Brume's dumps

So back to Turrican there are - Extremely stable density: CTA reports between 12813 and 12814 bits in the the tracks I have looked at. You are looking at the whole disk or just a few tracks? Yes I have been looking at most of the tracks - furthermore the analysis of the IPF file generated with CTA ...

Re: Brume's dumps

Back to technical issues after this useless digressions. I am still trying to guess (as I did not get answer) why tracks in Turrican are detected in CTA as modified. The CTA program is supposed not to support archival of modified disk based on generic MFM coding but in this case I was able to write ...

Re: Brume's dumps

Even though I have expressed some disagreements with the way SPS operates, we must recognize that they are doing a remarkable job in the area of old floppy disk preservation. As expressed above, I do not fully agree with the way SPS manage IPF files but this is their decision and I respect that. In ...

Re: Brume's dumps

That's very interesting, thank you for the information about SPS. So they can track an IPF generated by a user, right? Yes anybody can check the creator id. Also your return of experience doesn't encourage to share RAW dumps. No I encourage people to share (even if it infringe copyright). But uploa...

Re: Brume's dumps

Producing IPF files is not too much difficult but producing correct IPF file is much harder ;) As Ijor mention here http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=30517&e=1&view=unread#p302749 verification and format are somewhat independent. It is just that IPF pushes you to perform co...

Re: Brume's dumps

Seems like SPS has a a double-face attitude. On one side they accept KF files from someone, and were supposed to provide in return an IPF file. As the person own the original, the IPF is just considered a backup and do not infringe copyright. But on the other side of course they keep a copy the KF a...

Re: Brume's dumps

Question when looking at CTA track density window there are two curves one in blue ans one in pink. The blue seems to be the bit-width what about the pink curve? Not sure what yo mean by surface quality. Flux read by KF/SCP are "digitized" information. To me surface quality would be more a...

Re: Brume's dumps

Interesting! I have decided to looked with CTA at the IPF file generated from ctr and guess what: we still have 151 modified tracks !?! Here the modified detection is even more strange ? Anybody tried the IPF file ? We now have all tracks detected as "normal density", meaning auto width, m...

Re: Brume's dumps

Note that CTA and Aufit have difficulties with the bith-width variation used in this disk. For many tracks CTA reports "unknown" and even "Noise" for density detection (even though they are correctly detected as MFM and not reported as noise in the "total"). While Aufit...

Re: Brume's dumps

Well, i know for a fact that duplication machines were writing gaps in a perfect manner, while computers FDC just can't do that. The irregularities about GAPS can trigger the 'it's modified' when it's not. When a computer saves or write on a duplicated disks, it's changing the gap sizes and positio...

Re: Brume's dumps

Sorry my mistake :( I have added many new features in Aufit around splices and as I have not used it for quite some times I did not remember that I turned on a flag that display start position of $00 sequence inside gap. So Aufit does not detect any sector write splice (reason no black line in disk...

Re: Brume's dumps

This question should be asked to SPS people. I am sure of nothing concerning CTA. In general I dont know how they detect modified track. But in this case it must be splice detection because I do not see any other reason? I agree that it would be difficult to write this kind of track on an atari. Ind...

Re: Pasti images that should, but don't work

If you have images that run slow. Try the attached version based on feedback from Ijor. It includes the sync position in track information and this might help. Do not remember about latest release of Aufit. But on my version there is a flag called WriteSync that you can check in the Export tab. It w...

Re: Brume's dumps

Turrican ... This one does not seems to have any "serious" protection. Only a strange MFM format 1x512 + 1x128 + 5x1024 And this certainly IS a protection. Don't know what exactly you mean by "serious", but you can't copy that format with standard hardware.. You can't use BIOS c...

Re: Brume's dumps

Just analyzed Turrican II with Aufit and CTA and same conclusion: not really protected / same strange format / tracks seems modified.

Note that Aufit detect some of the tracks as long tracks because the clock period is low (~1940) on these FDs and some tracks are therefore marginal

Re: Pasti images that should, but don't work

Would be great to have KF and STX. Brume can you take care of collecting/publishing images? I have looked at the image I have (probably from you). Under Aufit I do not see problem however when I test the ctr image with CTA (from SPS) the program complains. As far as I know the error indicate modifie...

Re: New Pasti.DLL, 0.2j

Yes you are right I did not explained very well. What you describe is perfectly correct: certification and format are independent. My plan to produce IPF file in Aufit is to compare converted flux data against "certified master template". If a match is found then perfect flux data are recr...

Did not found SCP/KF of 4 Wheel Drive is at Atarimania. Still be interested. Atarimania doesn't host SCP/KF images AFAIK. There's no SCP or KF image of this compilation anyway, only STX. Yes I know. It would be great to have a site with all the SCP/KF images ... STX is great for emulation but usele...
