Re: The Atari ST (and others) and the Creative People

Personally, I enjoyed the book. It's very well executed in terms of presentation and quality of the physical product. The narrative - at first I found it very odd to be quite honest, but I warmed to it - gonzo meets scene poetry :D My favourite bit was the piece on the Megadeth font. Personally i co...

Re: Sync-buzzer technique

Thanks alot Ben, it's really interesting to me as, while i was reading, i remembered I'd infact seen this behaviour to a degree in hatari - so I quickly checked on a regular pure buzzer sound, and sure enough, if i set the period to zero, i hear a very small reduction in level on a pure envelope bas...

Re: Sync-buzzer technique

Sorry Steven I confused matters there - in the vid Gwem detunes the buzzer envelope period, not the note period. That's really interesting information from Ben/OVR, about the effect iof the null period. In the emulator (Hatari) I don't hear any difference between a period of 0 and muting the square ...

Re: Sync-buzzer technique

In the vid Gwem explains the relationship between the period and the resultant sound. You see him detuning the period vs the timer frequency. So no - the period doesn't need to be zero, and modulating the period (decoupled from the timer frequency) is the gateway to awesome sounds! Setting the perio...

Re: audio latency/delay issue

--sound-buffer-size 10 FTW!

No noticeable problems with breakup/buffer under runs etc.

How about widening the scope of the setting?! 5ms or lower even? :)

Thank you Eero!

Hi Eero,

Thank you for your reply - i'll experiment with a low value. Do you know by chance what the default value is?

audio latency/delay issue

Hello again :) i've been using Hatari to develop my chiptracker. I love it to bits :) However... something has been bugging me a little. I'm convinced there's a very small audio delay/latency, maybe a couple hundred miliseconds or so. It's not a problem for everyday demo watching, but when you're tr...

SC1224 behaving badly - vertical size adjust

Hello guys and gals, I wonder if anyone has any advice on whether or not I might be able to fix my poorly SC1224 monitor. Basically the vertical size pot has a mind of its own, sometimes the screen size shrinks to unreadable proportions and sometimes it zooms well beyond the borders of the screen it...

PARTY TIME!! yep, this works just great! And with the added bonus of the new video.c for the most accurate emulation yet :) It's a milestone in ST emulation surely :) I have some issues quitting fullscreen but i'm not bothered about that, performance is great! Thank you so much Mr Styckx, Evl and Tr...

Re: strange audio behaviour all of a sudden

Hello Nicolas, I tried 1.9 first - it exhibited the same issues on this machine/OS. So i went back to 1.8, which I've been running faultlessly on a lower specced macbook for years. Obviously that didn't help :) What i'm trying to say is, i've never had a CPU resource issue with Hatari/SDL on my prev...

Re: strange audio behaviour all of a sudden

So it appears that Hatari is peaking the CPU usage on my work laptop, even though it's a beast. According to activity monitor it's using 130% or thereabouts. My significantly lower powered home laptop (which is working fine) is only making around 35% cpu utilisation. So something in the hardware/OS ...

strange audio behaviour all of a sudden

Hey guys, I wonder if anyone else can shed some light on this strange behaviour i've suddenly started seeing in Hatari. A couple of days ago on my Macbook Pro running 10.10, I updated OS X to 10.10.5, and immediately afterwards I noticed that the audio output of Hatari 1.8 was behaving erratically. ...
