Re: Very first computer

The Apple II was used, that means cheap. I used my first summer job money in 1992 to buy a second hand 520STfm, from a friend who got a 1040STE. The step from Apple IIe to Atari was HUGE :) I must ask you from what country you were when you bought Apple II in 1986. and ST in 1992? I ask this becaus...

Re: Very first computer

Got a used Apple IIe with green monitor and two floppies from dad's work for christmas 1986, with DOS 3.3, apple Works 1.2, and a few games. First favorite games were Karateka, E.T Comes Back and Space Raider. It made friends' C64 look like a toy I got ST in 1986. so C64 and Apple II and even Mac (...

If you look at Quake port by Mikro, then yes :) Falcon CT60 can be compared to Pentium PC systems...

Re: Which games could be possible on our Ataris today ?

Interesting topic :) There are bunch of new games (for Win, Mac, iOS, Android) inspired by old games that could be done for ST also. I played "The Binding of Isaac" and I think it would be well suited for STe. Example is Lumberjack for Amiga or Flappy bird that is ported to almost all retr...

Re: We redesign the STE

In practice, I feel the IBM was absolutely crippled by its lack of mouse and lack of a GUI. Text-only software is extremely limited. You could use an Atari word processor today easily. It would feel similar to a modern package. But could you use DOS versions of Wordperfect today? No way! What IBM d...

Re: We redesign the STE

I really disagree: ST got great application software in late 80s and early 90s - software much better then PC counterparts!!! Just compare Signum to WordPerfect... or GEM Ventura to Calamus ;) Yeah, but at the same time as the ST had a few good word processors, the PC had heaps of them. And while t...

Re: We redesign the STE

by 1989 (or 88, really doesn't matter) the ST (and Amiga) was already doomed as software support shifted towards the PC. People wanted more than just playing games on their home computers I really disagree: ST got great application software in late 80s and early 90s - software much better then PC c...

Re: Bad Apple by Fenarinarsa (Atari STe demo) !!!!!

Yes, as I said before a monochrome version is completely possible. It needs some modifications of the generator to take into account the longer lines in memory and the higher number of lines. Also I'm not sure of the best way to handle the difference of framerate. In lowres it was easy, I switch to...

Re: Bad Apple by Fenarinarsa (Atari STe demo) !!!!!

So far we have only one SM124 demo for ST... I'm quite sure that there's a lot more than one monochrome-demo out there. I remember seeing several in the early 90's. Like that demo from Application System Heidelberg ? http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=11657 :D ...I do not remember mono demos from ...

I like your prod a lot. I have one question: it seems that yo're not using whole screen, how much does that save? Yes I do, it's 320x200 so it's the whole regular screen. The borders can't be used unless you use fullscreen techniques, but they're not compatible with disk loading (HDD loading uses D...

My point was that people obsessed with conspirations claim often complete false things. I can not prove that some event happened differently. I was not there. This is exactly one thing that computers could improve if they implement and integrate better metadata (as e.g. Ted Nelson suggested)! OS sh...
