Re: Sparrow inspection

Thanks for looking, Arne. In the end I have agreed to pay $25 + postage fees for the disk. I only hope that it's a working unit as the seller couldn't guarantee that.

Re: Sparrow inspection

By the way, here is the one page of an Atari Sparrow schematic that I could recover. It seems to be a very early revision, still with separate VGA and RGB connectors, so it most likely doesn't match mikro's board. At first glance it looks like a STE with chips names GSTMCU and GSTSHIFTER. But at se...

Re: Sparrow inspection

Small update: I was able to verify that the ROMs which are given by Steve from Wizztronics along with his Sparrow boards are the same as mine. So you're not missing anything, the version from 29 Feb 1992 should work everywhere.

Re: Sparrow inspection

Probably you all already know, but there is an Atari spec for the Sparrow incl. registers. Unfortunately, formatting has been lost: https://forum.atari-home.de/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=13380.0;attach=12961 I wonder if mikros dump confirms the registers shown there. EDIT: As for the bus error...

Did you actually try it? Because the file I get from it is quite suspicious. Compiled as 'vasm -m68030 -Ftos -devpac -o regdump.tos dump.s'

Yesterday I have talked to a guy that told me that this "slight hardware modification" was just using newer Xilinx chips. Your guy is right, it's all here: https://github.com/mikrosk/ct60tos/commit/ff75ace263291f32f3902f5ba281ed8737578952 (you can see in following commits that also flash0...

I doubt that. TOS ROMs had been updated regularly, can't imagine somebody doing translations for it. Also, all Sparrows I have ever seen had only US keyboard layout.

Re: Sparrow inspection

Think I purchased the Sparrow I had from Wizztronics back in 96 or so. It was a fully functional unit. I have two boards from them (and know about another guy, accidentally also from Slovakia, who has another two). When comparing visually, one of them (rev. 2) looks pretty much identical to what I ...

Re: Sparrow inspection

As promised, here's TOS 2.07 dump, for the first time in Atari history. :) I used both Ppera's and Pacifist's tools, both produce the same result. Calimero: no need, I guess I can manage. However what would I certainly appreciate if someone had the exactly same unit, Conner CP2044PK (43 MB). So I co...

Sparrow inspection

Perhaps you have noticed on FB that I could finally take a look on my Sparrow. I'll post all findings to this thread. I'll post some motherboard photos / findings later as I want to do a few tests yet. Basically, the whole machine feels very STE like. Mine has a SR-298 PSU (I guess it's an iteration...

Exactly, This is my friend, He repaired my two falcons boards, CT60, CTPCIs and my Hades too ! :D I guess it is someone else than Lotharek, isn't it? Would he be open to do repairs also for fellow Slovaks? ;-) Frankly (fortunately!) I don't have any machine for repair right now but it's always good...

Re: CosmosEx on 520 ST (no floppy)

I'm planning to go the same way but my idea was to do it more "native". I.e. put the unit into an old SF314 case and connect it via both floppy and ACSI cables (along with the power cable). This solution also requires a simple cable from the CE to the IKBD connector but still much better (...

FreeMiNT is actually a great tool to detect whether everything is OK with the computer. Much more sensitive to corrupted RAM, I/O etc.

Re: Dead Falcon

Look for Atari Falcon Service Manual at https://www.dev-docs.org/docs and look for pinout for U67 and the CPU. J20/22 jumper is correct, yes. However you can try removing it whether it leads to white blank screen. Also if helps to connect it to RGB/TV, sometimes you see screen artifacts which can gi...

No, that's for Milan's 68882 FPU emulation, AFAIK. You're stuck with what the 060 and its software emulation package provides.

Re: Memory protection in Mint

Always on. To extend Joska's answer, there's another trick / reason why use the flags dialog: demos and games. They usually hang on some system vector (like VBL) which is OK if done in Supervisor but as soon as the vector is triggered you get memory violation: the routine is in application's user sp...

I'm so sorry to all people who had PM'ed me. I couldn't reach AF very often and/or type on a normal keyboard. In the end I have managed to obtain a nice 260ST with UK TOS 1.00. I'm still thinking about an 520ST+ but it's not a priority.

Re: not-so-stable TT

Actually the fact you made it crash during FreeMiNT is much better than with NVDI. Because, you know, FreeMiNT is open source. So you can pinpoint the exact cause. From your posts I have a feeling it's memory-related but that's too wide of course -- starting with noise on the bus and ending with bad...

Now I am sure:

IMG_20180511_120914_1.jpg

So basically any 5.x will do as the base, then just the addendum needs to be scanned.
