Looking forward for the full list of discovered issues! It's always interesting to know what can go wrong and how to fix it.

Re: rsync in SpareMINT

This is a known issue with rsync on mint. I get the feeling it has completed the job, it just never exits. That's correct. Alan Hourihane sent me a fixed binary years ago where this problem was solved, but it doesn't look like the patch has been distributed. The SpareMiNT rsync is still non-functio...

Re: Modern multisync monitors?

So I kept looking for a different monitor and got my hands on a Dell UltraSharp U2410 monitor, a Dell high-end monitor, now out-of-production but can be found on e-bay. It's a 16:10 screen at 1920x1200 native. This monitor has no problems syncing down to 15kHz, and it syncs to new frequencies insta...

Re: Atari Falcon screws

Let’s start from scratch. The Atari Falcon030 Service Guide gives us this piece of information: 4 screws (220) from the square holes 3 screws (240) from the round holes 9 screws (80) holding the shield (160) and speaker assembly (170, 180, 190) 3 screws (150) in the round holes (floppy - 120) + stan...

Re: TT030 VGA picture quality

Really nice idea. I read about the OSSC here: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=20971#p346128 and it got me interested (but like evil, equally disappointed with the pause between interlace/non-interlace switching). But since the TT doesn't suffer from such issues (no interlaced mod...

Re: Falcon crashing when moved

will fairly consistently crash if I let it warm up (it does not crash cold) and then tap lightly with my finger on various ICs Sadly, I think this may point to microfractures in the board. Don't be too pessimistic here. From your description it doesn't look like a PCB damage to me (how else would i...

Re: S-Video on Falcon

I'm going to give it a try next week I hope. I'm not sure whether it's good news or bad news but I have realised that I don't need it. :-) For some reason I had believed that the ScreenEye outputs an S-Video signal (which is rather stupid as it's just one RCA cable) and therefore to be able to reco...

Re: Falcon's 16bit bus myth - 32bit vs 16bit war

Simple rule of thumb: if it doesn't have a CPU and memory on the same expansion card, it can't have 32-bit memory access. The only exception here is the CT2A which does have its own 32-bit expansion connector but hey, it already has its own CPU and memory onboard. :)

Sure it is, I do it all the time, even directly with /dev/sdx. Are you sure it isn't just stopped on SCSI detection? That takes ages with old builds.

Atari Falcon screws

Guys, I'm trying to 'backtrack' the right screws for the Falcon. The Service Guide is incomplete in this area (missing screw items numbers). So far I've identified these item numbers: (n/a): Philips Flat Head M3, 12mm (2x fan) 50: Pan Head M3, 8mm (6x upper shield) 80: Pan Head M3, 5mm (3x front shi...

Re: Phantom accelerator (by Phanatic).

Are the schematics available? The circuit sounds very simple, from your description it sounds like the stability is taken care of by the clock patch and not the Phantom itself. Not exactly standard one but mzry has succeeded to build one by this: https://mikrosk.github.io/clockpatch/Clockpatch-2.2....

I've been wondering about the same not so long ago.

I'm afraid somebody has to be the first one to try it as there are no explicit instructions.

Re: LCD capable of 100 Hz?

The overscan can be either masked or, again, the 576p mode can be utilised. For hires TC (+overscan), well, how many such a demos are there (not counting slideshows with ripped off boris valejo images)? Even 384x256 (with double lines, mind you) is a problem because then again, if you switch to VGA...

Re: LCD capable of 100 Hz?

...or an old CRT 14" RGB monitor. Nothing can beat that! Except the space they take. :) For me it was mostly the issue of having a Nemesis/Phantom/CT2/BlowUP with an LCD for having great resolutions like 1024x768x8-bit@45 Hz and still having the possibility to run mentioned 100 Hz demos. I can...

Re: Falcon Nova Adapter ...

That said, a Nova adapter with integrated alt-RAM would be a good solution for stock Falcons. Exactly. That is what I meant -- we had the Magnum ST/E which was a brilliant alt-RAM solution for its time and we had NOVA which was a brilliant graphics solution. On the Falcon, Magnum actually still was...

Re: Beginning of very long journey

When it comes to ethernet, what about something like this: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=28840 but built in? I have that card, it's the same IC so I had adapted the original EtherNEC drivers for that + optimised the hell out of it (plus enabled 16-bit transfers), it's quite fas...

Re: LCD capable of 100 Hz?

What about to patch the VGA100Hz (and PAL) demos to output regular VGA timings? As a side effect it will make them BUS accelerator compatible. You wouldn't be the first to suggest that. :) I even have something like ~8 years old code which does that universally for "every' demo. However there ...

Re: Phantom accelerator (by Phanatic).

Phantom looks like a simple and functional patch. Hoho, carefully. :) While Phantom is certainly way cheaper and simpler to build, it's far more difficult to install. You have to cut/scratch/solder a couple of very tiny pins (take a look at the DSP and you will get the idea). Something like CENTurb...

Re: Falcon Nova Adapter ...

So an interesting but pointless development. Indeed. Back then I didn't have much information about stuff like Magnum or NOVA for the Falcon but I kind of assumed they are equally great as on the MegaSTE/TT (i.e. greatly enhancing its capabilities). Only recently I have realised how poorly designed...

Re: LCD capable of 100 Hz?

Of course, HDMI/DVI (digital input) is not interesting here. As mentioned, we're after an analog >100 Hz input. There seem(ed) to be a few industrial LCDs with amazing specs (24 - 100 kHz / 48 -120 Hz) but those were for hospitals (for surgeons :)) - look for Eizo RadiForce SCD 19102 for instance. A...

Re: S-Video on Falcon

I actually like Simbo's method more because it doesn't require desoldering the coil and delay lines: ⋅  lift MC1377's pin 10 (chroma input) and optionally put a jumper/switch between the pin and pin's hole ⋅  connect Luma wire to R30's end* (former composite video, same as DB19 p...
