Re: MC68000 in STFM - package

DIL64,
with your motherboard the worst part is more or less 8mm from PCB, on the other motherboard 16mm
CPU is close to 5mm high so you have maybe 3 to 4mm

Re: STE motherboard works ok but high res output is VERY dim

@tzoc: oops, yep I read the schematics too fast ;)
if it's not a bad joint Q403 is a candidate but also check the capacitor C414 that may be near to short and change output level.

Re: STE motherboard works ok but high res output is VERY dim

check output of the 74S257 (U405 from this schematic http://www.gossuin.be/images/schemasata ... 600dpi.pdf)
also check for continuity from pin 7(MONOMON) of this chip to the monitor DIN14
(check on the pin and not the pad to check for a bad soldering)

Re: Glue a disassociated disk?

your chance of success is a bit small I think. If readable, the disk will have 2 main problems : bad index (not synced with the position on the index hole in the metal disc) and not sure of the side (if disk is 2 sided, that may not be the case for an early original atari disc). Also it must be cent...

Re: GEMDOS on Apple Lisa

Ok I could compile with m68k-atari-mint-gcc and run it under lisa gemdos but not with libMint. It worked with libcmini (https://github.com/mfro0/libcmini)

(I also recompiled some lisa gemdos and gem sources with hatari + emutos + a gemdos hdd).

Re: GEMDOS on Apple Lisa

Vincent Rivière's m68k-atari-mint cross-tools I've installed and compiled a first test (and tested under original DRI gemdos for now). It does not run on lisa yet but I'm not sure this early gemdos have the same exec format than later TOS. Also since all libc is linked, it makes a large binary (127...

I already looked a bit here and yep, an emuTOS port could be an interesting project. But I need to setup a good 68k cross compilation environment first.

Re: Noobs use C, real programmers use Basic

real programmers use the most adequate language for a platform and a kind of project ;) (and also the language they are the most comfortable with). For atari I used mostly GFA + some assembly. Then on 386 PC Pascal and C (borland pascal and C were great and debugging was as simple as with basic). No...

Re: 520 STM - video

check also voltage on 18 (reset (also check when pressing reset)).
and voltage (and frequency if possible) on A1 to see if there is some activity on address bus.
It's just to eliminate a reset issue.

Re: 520 STM - video

it could also be a processor stuck on reset state, or bad bus buffers. do you have a basic logic analyzer or at least a multimeter to check voltages?

Re: 520 STM - video

this is not a "video" problem, video is generated and seems stable. but it can be many things.
Does this pattern appears immediately at boot? does a reset makes something?
Are your roms in the correct sockets and in good condition?

Re: My 1040 STF works, but doesn't?

some 520 and 1040STF (at least models for France) do not output PAL or NTSC but only a composite synchro + separate RGB. So maybe this cable does not fit your atari. Anyway the sound should work and you should hear key repeat if you keep a key pressed. (models that should work with this cable have t...

Re: GEMDOS on Apple Lisa

Hello, I still need to update the disc image on my old site (it will boot but not bring gemvdi/desktop). In fact my bug in creating a boot disc for lisa can be found in the screenshot, you can see that some files have wrong size (this is due to a FAT12 code assuming int to be 16bits (the code comes ...

Re: Aranym Limitations?

You can consider ananym as a virtualization rather than an emulation. It's great for many tasks (coding without waiting hours in compilation time, working with good old tools). It's not great to run demos, games and every program that needs a close to perfect ST/STE or Falcon emulation (here, use Ha...

Re: YM recording unstable

capturing at every VBL is not perfect because you may get some aliasing of nearly 1VBL in the worst case. a better capture would be to check 3 or 4 time a frame (at a fixed rate based on VBL refresh). And only keep the best one (to avoid capturing partial updates, ie one chanel modified and not the ...

I remember I used a similar method to get the page/line/word for genesia. First ST games were not protected, nearly all commercial floppies were protected in the late 80ies... but after that, came a generation of machines with HDD, so physical protection disappeared to be able to install such games ...

Re: Steem svn ????

Emulation sync is not an easy task because you have 3 levels of sync that interract: _ the emulated machine has a fixed video refresh period, most of the time 50 or 60 Hz. _ you have to maintain a strict audio out stream (made of fixed size sample buffers) for perfect sound. _ the emulator host has ...

I agree it's not a real interlaced mode, the second half image will be exactly in the same position as the first and not 1/2 pixel to the bottom. Some mono emulators used half tones but some were also alterning screens. A german program called monok mabe? can't remember... I may have this on an old ...

All emulators that achieved there goal (ie emulating in a usefull way a machine) were designed with this 3 steps: _ a proof of concept with incomplete cpu+basic io to check if we can emulate fast enough. _ very limited GUI, just enough to feed the emulator. _ ports to other platforms, tools to use t...

Re: Steem svn ????

I totaly agree that useability is important but don't forget that emulators are mainly written by people motivated by hardware understanding and fine emulation. Also, even it submited patches are welcome... most of them will bring strong regression, or are only cosmetics. To focus on atari emulation...
