Re: Checktrakk by Checkpoint

Tested quickly in Hatari. Seems to require 4MB of RAM to start.

(Don't know whether there's some issue with the playback as it's first release, or whether I just don't like the included songs, they sound very noisy. Anyway, nice to see new Atari SW!)

Re: VISION 4.1a is out!

There seems to be a minor issue with the (Vision v4.1a) help bubbles. When moving mouse up and down the Options menu, there's suddenly a help bubble for the printer icon that's below the menu. I.e. the bug is that bubble items get triggered while there's a menu open (i.e. for items below an opened m...

Re: Hatari 2.1.0 has been released

I have tested the new build. It improves a bit vs the previous one. TOS 4.04 falcon Mode, boots on IDE image and use C:\newdesk.inf as expected. TOS 2.06 Mega STE Mode, and ACSI image boots using the standard INF and not the one on C:\. Are you sure about this? Whether INF file is overridden should...

That page says it's ST/E, but it seems to work only on STE (and is indeed pretty nice).

Re: Newdesk.inf and autostarting GEM apps

What I mean there, is that AUTO apps seem to go, but the Newdesk.INF is ignored? I am trying for example in a stock Atari mode, no Multitasking OS yet, but gettign it to kickstart JINNEE.APP and it simply wont do it? I cannot get it to use the Newdesk.inf file not even get it to remember the open w...

Re: Doom for TT030.

I'm curious to know if anyone has ever benchmarked BadMood vs Doom on the Jaguar. Would be pretty funny if DML managed to squeeze better performance out of the Falcon than John Carmack had gotten out of the Jaguar. AFAIK Jaguar version of Doom didn't use the same levels as PC Doom, like BadMood doe...

Re: RS232 support in Windows?

Hatari developers don't have/own Windows. Any Windows specific feature would need some Windows user to contribute code to implement it. If GL acceleration is problem with virtualization, I would recommend using SDL1 instead. Hatari itself doesn't need GL, and SDL2 is only using it for scaling the fr...

Re: HAtari 2.1.0, Falcon emulation and DSP and screenpointer update

As already mentioned, Hatari Videl emulation is somewhat lacking. CPU, FPU, MMU, DSP & TT-RAM emulation should instruction-wise be correct, but unlike 68000 emulation, isn't yet cycle accurate. In regards to cycle-accurate CPU<->DSP synchronization, sometimes enabling cache emulation (--cpu-exac...

I think that like MiNT, ASV needs also (attach...

Re: Hatari loads slow and reports errors on RPi3B running Raspbian

If it's several minutes, your Hatari version isn't built properly, or your raspi is otherwise too slow for Hatari.

Are you by any chance emulating something else than 8Mhz ST / STE?

Re: Planning a PLATOTerm port for the Atari ST, some questions.

By using a minimal C-library instead MiNTlib, one can get small binaries also with GCC. GCC can produce significantly faster code than something ancient like Pure-C, and it has also much better error checking & reporting than Pure-C (many of the optimization passes rely on code correctness, old ...

Re: Long Filenames

You don’t necessarily need to format a partition "into" Minix or Ext2 to have long filenames. you could use VFAT on existing GEM/FAT partitions with MagiC (and I guess with MiNT, too). Plain TOS can then also access the data there, it’s just that longer filenames are shortened. But everyt...

Thanks! I tested this in Hatari: hatari --memsize 14 --tos etos512k.img --machine falcon --dsp none --cpuclock 32 --cpu-exact off --fpu 68882 ./barrage.prg It doesn't seem to matter what CPU is used (030/040/060) and it doesn't require MMU or cycle exact emulation, but FPU is needed. Re: Long Filenames

An one needs to format some partition with a file system that support long filenames (not DOS/TOS one, but minix or ext2 etc). And with a desktop (or console program) that supports long file names, one can then rename them. I think most fancier desktops should support long file names, but maybe even...

Re: Atari file system support for Linux ?

Hi Eero, I've tested the tool with other hardware - everything seemed okay. Obviously the SD card reader in my notebook is supported weakly under linux. Ok, so the driver is using some really slow mode for accessing the card, or it's just written in very inefficient way. That can happen for Linux s...

I think there is still room for improvement. For example colorful pictures like Spectrum 512 or Photochrome are not displayed correctly (try to run some PP patched games which display the box graphics at the start). The games/demos which open the borders also do not work. Spec512 and overscan "...

Re: Atari file system support for Linux ?

Writes cannot be cached like reads can. They could be buffered by kernel, but that would mean that writes haven't been pushed to card when the write command has finished. I.e. if you would eject the card, the data wouldn't be there, although file system might show it. How do you do the "raw&quo...

Re: Amikit style blob/OS for Atari?

Actually when I attempted VanillaMiNT on my TT it just crashed on start up. Or maybe I was trying it in Hatari first. MiNT will crash with Hatari TT emulation. To use MiNT with Hatari TT emulation, you need one-liner patch to disable bus errors from accessing SCC regs which aren't yet implemented b...

Re: Atari file system support for Linux ?

When you say that tool takes less time on Windows, is it to this same MMC card, and to same partition on it? (MMCs may have some faster flash at beginning which is optimized for FAT file systems.) And do you have same amount of free space in both cases before doing the test? Flash media does wear-le...

That just hard-codes a different value, i.e. it would break things for others. A reasonable patch would detect the controller and set controller specific values.
