Re: GCC 7.3.0 for m68k / m68020-60 / m5475 (ColdFire)

So I hope GCC 8.2 can do better, but I have lots of code written in assembly, and I just can't understand how I can bind it to GCC by specifying function parameters into specific register. I think you should still be able to use VASM as standalone assembler and link object files it produces with GC...

Re: VISION 4.5a is out!

Vision seems to work fine with latest EmuTOS, except on Falcon. On Falcon none of the popup menus work, they just give AES error dialog. It seems that Vision assumes Falcon to have AES version with new menu functions, without actually checking the available AES version. Maybe Vision could check AES ...

Re: Falcon sD|SPi interface idea

SCSI card readers are very expensive if even available and needs some modern HDDriver - which also has kinda steep price. (CD/DVDs are a bit hassle and the SD2SCSI also a bit pricey and does not accept regular files on a FAT formatted card) Latest EmuTOS release (v0.9.10) added SCSI support, so you...

Re: ao486

It's a shame that DOS 6 isn't freely available, otherwise we could package a VHD ready for use with that and maybe a couple of demo/shareware/PD games. I'ver never tried FreeDOS so not sure that is a viable alternative. Has anybody got any experience with it? Is it worth doing? DOS doesn't do much....

Re: 680x0 cores

I do not care about cycle accuracy and don't know why anyone would! On Atari ST/STe it's needed for things like overscan and some trickier palette tricks i.e. getting larger resolutions and more colors than HW was originally designed for. These are mostly used in demos (because those techniques hav...

Attached are few less demanding 4KB DOS demos from the 90's that one could try:

Couple of them have sound (Helium & World), others are visuals only.

There is no need to start the game with the mouse. The joystick fire button works, at least on my computer. Oh cr*ap, you're right, sorry about the wrong info. I use the USB joypad attached to my computer (with Hatari) so infrequently that I always forget its "X" button doesn't act as fir...

Nice game and cute graphics! Works fine with EmuTOS and on STE & TT in addition to normal TOS and ST. Minor issues with the game: * Doesn't change resolution to required ST-low on startup, if it's something else * With 4MB or more ST-RAM, game crashes at startup to bus error at memory end (bus e...

Verified, works fine now, also with EmuTOS. Interesting little program. :-)

(Although unaligned accesses work on some processors, they're normally slower than aligned accesses, regardless of whether it's m68k or e.g. x86.)

Re: Atari TT030 and system V

I have done that ca. 1993 / 1994, when Mosaic came out. I already had the (at that time) complete GNU toolchain ported to ASV (including emacs). Based on that, porting Mosaic was possible, although laborious, because, at that time, there was nothing like autoconf . Yes, you could view pages from ea...

Re: SYSREC a tool to record system calls of an application

In what setup Sysrec should work? For me it crashes to address error when selecting the "Sauver" option in the dialog after it has run the test program. It happens when it tries to write SYSREC.TXT file. Hatari (--trace gemdos, xbios) output with latest EmuTOS v0.9.10 512k version, on monoc...

I created only a basic harddisk launcher, not a fancy menu system with blingbling. Its focus was to work on every Atari, not to cater for the demoscene multimedia quality. Have you considered doing a blingbling version at some point? :-) I wonder what kind of bling would be reasonable... Screenshot...

Nice place you guys have here. So I am new to Atari and looking to buy a Mist, not interested in Mister. I've been through the Atari core wiki, but it does not clarify if the Atari core can record audio samples. I understand that the Falcon can, but the wiki states that the falcon audio is not ever...

Re: Recommended hardware tweaks/mods for an Atari STe

Rather than tracker music, why not go for MIDI as you already have Notator? Especially with CRT monitors, it would have looked better with monochrome than color one due to larger resolution (640x400 vs 640x200) and higher refresh rate (71 vs 50/60).

Re: Vision native for coldfire

This is assuming one doesn't bump into any AHCC bugs. Thats why i would not recommend using AHCC, i would not trust a compiler whos developer thinks he can use the same library for 32bit ints by just changing the header files. Also, AHCC has the problem that it has no (soft-)floating point support ...

Re: Vision native for coldfire

I think for AHCC one just needs to update Pure-C PRJ project files a bit, to use suitable compile flags ("-7") and libs (ones which have extra "f" or "fi" at end). This is assuming one doesn't bump into any AHCC bugs. However, if there's also assembly code in addition t...

Ballerburg is nowadays GPL. I have somewhat cleaned up version of it here: http://eerott.mbnet.fi/hatari/programs.shtml#baller And DynaBusters is indeed another great multi-player game: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st-dynabusters_28670.html I'd add also Bad Mood, as it works with shareware (...

Re: R0X ZER0

The solution is in fact quite simple : emutos starts in 60 Hz, but the credits screen requires 50 Hz to work correctly (ie 512 cycles per line) Most european TOS are starting in 50 Hz, so the credits screen is OK, but you would get the same error with a US TOS. Thanks, I hadn't noticed that 512k ve...

Few other notes about profling: * If code does tricks where it modifies subroutine return address directly from stack, to get RTS/RTE to return somewhere else than to the caller, that confuses call hierarchy tracking. E.g. EmuTOS uses this (and Hatari profiler special-cases that), but I don't know h...

Btw. Have you looked at the callgraphs yet? Yeah! Finally. I've been a bit too busy with other stuff. I'm not suprised how it looks though :) A CPU emulator is bound to generate an extremely yucky callgraph, but then again there are some nice clues in there. I'll definitely start using these tools ...

If you're interested, Hatari profiler would easily tell where the time goes. Just invoke Hatari debugger in credits screen, do "profile on" and "continue". After a while invoke debugger again and "profile save profile.txt", and you can see from the "profile.txt&quo...
