Re: Funny Paint

Weird program. To view the 6 pictures included with the program, and in the images.zip, I needed to start the program in many different resolutions (as it couldn't convert them)... - ST-low: bird2, brune1 - ST-med: c4 - Falcon 320x200@256: bunt, falcon64 - Falcon 320x200@hicolor: truecol Palettes lo...

Re: Funny Paint

I'd test it out in Hatari, but I can't seem to get it to work with any ST/e/TT system, only Falcon. All my stock ST hardware is narfed up, though I do suppose I could test it in ST mode on the MiST. Edit: To be clear, they don't work with GEMDOS emulation of a folder on my hard drive. The error is ...

Re: Funny Paint

On which emulator the palette is wrong?

Hatari should have no such issues e.g. in latest v2.0 release (haven't heard from any of that kind of issues for years).

And if you're using STeem, AFAIK it emulates by default STE, which palette handling differs a bit from ST...

Re: Overall strategy for hardware mods, upgrades, clones

As for video card I started working on one for our 68020 booster that will use the Epson S1D13506. it has its own DRAM (one external chip) and can do 800x600 in 16 bits. The component is 16 bit so can be adapted to VME bus, 68000 expansion or 68020/030 expansion bus ... but we need drivers (fVDI ?)...

Re: Open Source 68K Accelerator Project(s)

I gave this a try. The boot TOS works fine in both Steem and Hatari. Hatari detects the Boot TOS as v0.00. Changing the CPU setting gives and error saying the TOS version must be >1.4. This is of course true, but is it a Hatari programming feature or an actual fail? Maybe boot TOS just doesn't incl...

Re: Hatari path problems

There are some ifdefs in Hatari sources for __AMIGAOS4__. If you need to do additional changes, mail your diff to hatari-devel and we check whether it can be applied to Hatari.

Re: Hatari path problems

Sounds weird, I haven't heard anyone else having a bug like that. Just in case, could you try latest Hatari sources from Mercurial? One path string handling bug was fixed after 2.0. (There are also significant compatibility improvements in Falcon emulation, but that's way too heavy for any of the Am...

Re: Forgotten real good PD games

My favorite "PD" games list is quite boring, nothing very original... ST games: - Ballerburg (Atari original artillery game) - Bellum (amazingly playable for such a small game) - Cinko (really good version of Renju board game; not sure whether it's PD, shareware or commercial, it was on on...

Re: Help with Flair Paint

If it runs in some ancient emulator, but not in Hatari, you could try "cpu-exact off --compatible off" options, to make also Hatari's emulation less accurate. You could also try tracing TOS calls to see whether there's something funny (first "--trace os_base" and if that doesn't ...

No, I said that I've never seen one, with any of the newer fVDI versions. Those builds have all been for Aranym or extended video cards for some reason.

Re: TOS 2.06, failed to allocate window memory

I'm not able to reproduce the error and I have TOS 2.06de image with exactly same md5sum. Tried different memory amounts and monitors.

NOTE: TOS 2.06 doesn't work with Falcon, or TT with monochrome monitor, only with ST/STE and TT color monitor.

Re: TOS 2.06, failed to allocate window memory

You seem to be using extended VDI mode. How many bitplanes and which screen size you use? Any other things that differ from the Hatari defaults? Do things work OK if you start Hatari using defaults for everthing except TOS? (I've never heard of the kind of problem you have, but TOS could fixed size ...

Re: Open Source 68K Accelerator Project(s)

I don't know... There would need to be something in ROM that would load & execute floppy boot sector, and is compatible enough with 030 to do that. Easiest is just to test it, new EmuTOS snapshot was just released:

Here is the full benchmark completed. Summary... When not using JIT: * fVDI speeds up every test, also CPU, FPU, Disk and memory test. Impact is largest in memory test, so I assume it to be memory bandwidth saved from skipping Videl screen update (maybe not so much skipping the register updates Mik...

Re: Most highly recommended desktop programs / Mint

On my 4MB STfm running MiNT with monochrome monitor, I used ImageCopy and mGIF. Last one was great for viewing pictures I'd rendered with Pov-Ray (overnight), as it had this mode "flicker" mode which showed color images as grayscale on the Atari monochrome monitor. MGIF convolution matrice...

Re: Aranym, fVDI and Linux MiNT 18.3

Is Mint optimized to take benefit of JIT ?? Why the Disk IDE emulation slows down so much in JIT mode? I assume that you have more NativeFeatures drivers in use with MiNT than with your plain (Emu)TOS setup, and MiNT probably handles idle better (uses halt instruction). In disk case, is it possible...

Re: PaintPro by Abacus Software, dump anyone?

With Hatari, you could try using "--trace os_base" (or "--trace gemdos --conout 2" with older Hatari version), to see whether program outputs anything to console, whether any file accesses fail and does it terminate gracefully with pterm0().

Re: Aranym, fVDI and Linux MiNT 18.3

I don't know much Aranym, but can't you try this fVDI thing in Hatari as well? With Aranym, people use fVDI driver that's just a thin wrapper around Aranym's NatFeats VDI feature. It supports larger resolutions and bitdepths than what Atari natively supports. However, to use fVDI with Hatari, you n...

You should note that for doing this level of optimization may first requi...

Re: Bad Mood : Falcon030 'Doom'

I wonder if the new vs old core is indirectly changing the DSP duty? It doesn't emulate cache at all, so its balance is quite different. When I run "CenTurbo benchmark", it gave different Hatari versions, and CPU cores quite different speeds: 2.0, WinUAE CPU core: * FPU: 920 MHz * DSP: 64...
