Re: Hatari 2.1.0 has been released

I'm able to reproduce this. Hatari supports nowadays INF file overloading also for floppy/HD images, not just GEMDOS HD drive. When override is used without GEMDOS HD being C:, Hatari cannot just override suitable parts of the existing INF, it has to use Hatari default INF file (there are separate o...

Re: Aranym for Beginnner's

EmuTOS Aranym version should work better with Aranym than TOS v4: https://sourceforge.net/projects/emutos/files/emutos/0.9.9.1/emutos-aranym-0.9.9.1.zip/download [GLOBAL] TOS = EmuTOS = emutos-aranym.img ... It boots faster, and if one wants to use hard disk image instead of directories, EmuTOS work...

Re: Memory snapshots

It meas that IPF floppy disk information in the memory snapshot is incompatible with your Hatari version, so Hatari will skip restoring that data.

Most likely it's produced with a Hatari version that used an earlier version of the external IPF/Caps library.

Re: Upscaling recorded videos

Yes, both BMP and PNG are lossless compression methods. However, PNG compression is very heavy at highest compression level (which is the default), and can cause Hatari to skip frames if automatic frame skipping is enabled (it's enabled by default). If BMP takes too much space, one can try telling H...

Re: Tool to dump STe ROM?

So I tested both your and Mikro's tools and they both fail too, creating empty files. Then I noticed a message from Hatari - "GEMDOS Fwrite() failed due to invalid RAM range 0xe00000+262143". Looks like a problem with Hatari's hostfs driver. It works fine on emulated drives. Note:It was a...

Re: Hatari unusable with trackpad in fullscreen mode (Hatari v2.0.0 and SDL 2 on Linux)

Difference to X cursor sounds weird. Hatari uses relative mouse events reported by SDL (SDL provides also absolute mouse co-ordinates, and while those would help with some cases, they could be worse for others, and would be harder to handle in Hatari). Only thing that I think could explain the discr...

Re: Hatari red side bars in fullscreen

Maybe SDL2 defaults to red window background instead of black on Mac retina displays. 2.0.8 is latest SDL release and I didn't see any commit after that which would have a fix for it. If you can build your own version of Hatari, you could try whether attached change helps. set-black-render-bg.patch....

Regarding MMU support in emulators...

Aranym emulates 040 and its (simpler) MMU.

While latest Hatari can emulate those, it can emulate also 030, its MMU and instruction & data cache.

Re: Hatari 2.1.0 and window 7

For the Windows version of Hatari, I think you will have to keep the program and all supporting files on the same drive. In the past, the developers have not been interested in supporting Windows drive letters in the file selector dialog box. Nobody using Windows has contributed code for that to Ha...

I don't see them on Linux. Which version of Hatari and libSDL you're using?

(I think the problem is the libSDL library used in homebrew. Mac version of libSDL has had a lot of problems / bugs during the years.)

Re: Profiler messages

Hatari maps only single symbol name to a given address in memory, so if e.g. C-library aliases addresses with other symbols, or vice verse, the profiler output might not correspond directly symbol names in your code. I.e. the warnings are normally harmless, but you may need to be aware of them to in...

BadMood custom rendering engine requires also game data to be pre-processed to a more optimal format, before game starts. Its sound engine (soft synth + sound mixing) is also a custom one. On the upside, custom rendering engine allows additional features like mouse look (in ID SW that came only with...

Yeah but wasn't the music specially preprocessed and/or tweaked for his player? I mean it's not a universal player where you just incbin your favourite mid file and play it, is it. I think the player eats fairly straightforward MIDI-data, and that some early version of the MIDI player required just...

Re: Atari TT030 and system V

When I last tried Debian under TT emulation, I noticed that Linux and all the somewhat bloated libs & base system background processes take quite a lot of memory. Just starting the system with Bash shell takes almost all of the 14MB of ST-RAM. So, you're definitely going to need FastRAM to do an...

Doug's music code in BadMood is pretty nice. There's support both for playing the music through MIDI, and Doug's CPU-side soft synthesizer that AFAIK takes only few percent of CPU.

Re: TT030 clone - is it possible ?

I would think Falcon as a base is a better idea as well, simply because of the updated TOS, ability of custom video modes, DSP, etc. If the bus and CPU speed of the original Falcon hadn't been handicapped, it would have made an awesome workstation system. If the software didn't utilize the DSP, the...

My normal interaction with the debugger is scripted, so I don't need to remember anything unless I do something new. Normally I just need to pick a suitable debugger script from my "collection" and maybe do a little change (e.g. to catch a different OS call). Btw. If the builtin help outpu...

Re: Need idea to do something faster

At least on Hatari (and using a C compiler), that said algorithm is roughly 6 times faster than a plain div/mod (don't know how it does on real hw). For ST/STE emulation, Hatari should be cycle accurate, especially for things that use just CPU. And you can use debugger/profiler to measure the perfo...

Hmm, I was running the latest EmuTOS (0.9.9.1) and it didn't give the option for TT High (maybe I needed to play with the video settings.). I didn't have a chance yet to try it with TOS 3.06. Did you use monochrome monitor ("-m" option in Hatari)? TT-high is monochrome only, and it's only...
