Re: WD1772 Programming

This is where we are not in agreement. On my machine I ALWAYS get an IP independently of disk inserted or not. As I mentioned even without disk I am still getting IP with variable timing (motor variation). This differ from 5" drive that have IP based on small hole on the disk. Just try with Pa...

Re: All you always wanted to know about the WD1772

You should test what happens with the CRC after writing $F6... not sure if this is what you expect ... "nothing special" tested f5f6f7 => 200b c2 45ef f5f7f6f7 => a1 cdb4 f6 8fd9 f5f7f6f6f7 => a1 cdb4 f6 c2 40 6f They all gives the expected result Did not expect anything, just wanted to s...

It was definitely released, as we could hardly avoid the boxes in the office... but they may had been dumped while moving.
It was later re-released as Gnome Alone.

Re: List of difficult to copy disks

Yes i see some others disks with this effect. To be able to see this , the side 1 must be unformatted. i don't think that you recover something from this side, but sometime the software detect some valid Address/data mark.. I was thinking more along the lines of finding some way to cancel out the &...

Re: List of difficult to copy disks

Having a guide format ensures that if the track data being read contains errors the track gets redumped automatically - so you can save a lot of hassle and time actually using a guide format.

Re: Spectrum book - 48hrs only

Got the link for the Ocean book in the meanwhile, and it's well worth it - just in case anyone considers buying it. The only annoying thing is that there was no email or anything about how to download the file; had to check the order status several times, until a small link at the top of the order p...

Actually thanks a lot for the reminder, I completely forgot about this, but wanted to buy the Ocean one.

Re: KryoFlux Images of my FD

The absolute minimum number of revolutions you need to sample is 2 for commercial disks. The reason is really simple: on some track(s) data may pass over the index signal. There is no foolproof way of reconstructing such data from a single revolution. Imagine a pattern like this (for simplicity): 11...

Re: SCP disk images !

Actually Obitus (and a few other Psygnosis games) uses MMFM/M2FM encoding on the Amiga. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modified_Frequency_Modulation It's simply impossible to read this on an ST, since many clock bits are not needed/present - they represent valuable data, unlike FM or MFM. The downside...

Nicolas is right; in fact there are protections based on abusing the bitcell combinations that trigger the read problem in the WD.

Re: IPF Libray

Slightly related, but now Visual Studio 2013 Pro (renamed to Community Edition) is available as a free download directly from MS. So there is no need to use VS2012 anymore - VS2013 Pro/CE with update 4 is light years ahead. http://www.visualstudio.com/news/vs2013-community-vs In other words you can ...

Re: IPF Libray

Yes, it is VS2013, and soon will be VS2014. Building 32 bit code that actually works on XP or newer requires the legacy toolset (and some other settings) starting with VS2013. The toolset v120_xp is Visual Studio 12.0 (aka VS2013) code generator that creates XP compatible 32 bit code. Although XP is...

With dtc it is possible to create ctr from raw stream but of course the reverse is not possible :(

There is no guarantee on how the CTR file was made in the first place, so while this is possible, it's not supported.
