Re: extra midi port thru steem via usb

Don't quite follow. Steem 3.2 has 3 ports all of which can be configured for MIDI. I had a MIDI adapter for the serial port on my real ST, which needed a few lines of code to initialise, but I doubt that this is necessary in Steem. It certainly isn't necessary for the centronics port. (I have used a...

Re: misdirected steem from memory snapshot

It's up to Windows, so it may depend on which version you have. In Windows 7 you can alter the file extension from sts to, say, stx. Try to open it, then "select a program from list..." and browse to the instance you want. Tick "always use..." then that extension will always open...

Re: STeem and MIDI under Windows

Doesn't give you much time, does it? (Who programmed that?!) You can of course slow Steem down to 10% or less, with another shortcut. And one of the (many) nice things about Steem is that, once you've got your dump loaded, you can save a snapshot so you don't have to load it again next time. Or I gu...

Re: STeem and MIDI under Windows

The bad news is that i was hoping to set up an entire virtual synth editor environment based on STeem, but I can see now that this won´t work That's a bit sad - Steem is so much easier to use than the real ST (and will probably outlast it). I've done quite a bit of sequencer/editor programming with...

Re: STeem and MIDI under Windows

I can only speak for the original Steem (3_2) It's to do with Windows - apparently it will only transmit proper full MIDI messages. And it doesn't start to send a message until it has received it in full. Sysex messages are of unlimited length, and after the initial $F0 it won't start to send until ...

Re: Extended monitor option

The limitation is in the software, not Steem. I use all 3 ports for MIDI in the original Steem v 3.2 and they work perfectly (I write my own sequencing software). On my real ST (many years ago) I used the serial port for an additonal MIDI out - can't remember where I bought the adapter - you just ha...

Loss of I/O in Windows 7

I don't know if any of you clever guys can help me with a problem which is causing me a lot of hassle. It happens only in Windows 7, not XP or 98. Using "Compatibility Mode" doesn't help. There is sudden, apparently random loss of I/O. Usually this just affects MIDI, and closing Steem and ...

Re: Steem and Windows 7

Thanks for your comments folks. W7 64-bit. It's usually just MIDI. When it happens, other programs get the messages, but not Steem, so it's not the hardware. I would have thought it can't be coding because saving and reloading a snapshot cures it. And it never happened in years of XP (I use it prett...

Re: Steem and Windows 7

Thanks for reply.

No have already tried that: I/O packs up even quicker.

Actually it isn't entirely random, I get the impression it's more likely to happen when I'm sending a lot of MIDI traffic.

Steem and Windows 7

Anyone having problems with Steem and Windows 7? It runs fine for hours then at apparently random intervals I/O suddenly packs up. Usually just MIDI but sometimes also the IKBD as well. Cold restart fixes it (warm restart doesn't), and if a snapshot is saved, the I/O is fine when it's reloaded - the...
