Re: DIY: new cell for NVRAM chip

Im a proud new falcon 030 owner and new to all this. I read this thread before attempting anything. The machine i bought was totally origional. Alas the old connor drive packed up which made the floopy drive disfunctional. Thought it was linked to NVram battery prob. Braved it and lifted off the lid...

Re: My Falc up again but ....

I posted in another thread that a failed IDE drive temporarily disables the floppy drive. Take out / replace the IDE device and the floppy drive will function again. http://atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=18840&hilit=ide+floppy#p162022 So yesterday the CF-IDE adapter & card arrived...

Re: My Falc up again but ....

Well its been a day of getting to know my new Falcon intimately! Braved it and took the cover etc off. Located NVRam chip at front middle of motherboard. Got the top off the chip and found the NVRAM battery under the silicon stuff. Removed old battery & noted polarity. Tested battery voltage: 0....

Re: My Falc up again but ....

Thanks for the help. will try that then & post back... If its NVRAM did i read somewhere you can replace the battery inside the chip? Or is that for "real" techies! Hmmm got to try to source the chip then (in the uk) now. Best electronics can ship me a new internal PSU. Sort of feels t...

Re: My Falc up again but ....

Hi everyone, Found this thread & wondering if this is my issue too. Just been lucky enough to get my hands on a Falcon 030 with 4mb RAM. It booted from the HD fine the first few times. But now wont boot -just hear clicking noises repeatedly on bootup and no Hd access. Also my floppy drive has be...

Re: warning: bad rom crc in chip 0

Using sysinfo i found both STe's are running TOS 1.06. Think the unstable one is a different issue now to this thread so will do some more tests and post a different thread if i get stuck. Thanks for help & suggestions.

Re: warning: bad rom crc in chip 0

TOS is split into ODD and EVEN bytes (can be across 2, 4 or 6 physical proms) The message is simply stating that crc fails on the ODD and EVEN roms for the reason ssb gives above (the crc expected by reading TOS in RAM is being compared against TOS in ROM). The O is the letter 'o' and not a zero ;)...

Re: warning: bad rom crc in chip 0

Hi, anyone know why seltos is reporting 2 warning messages: Bad Rom CRC in Chip 0 (understand this one from above answer) Bad Rom CRC in Chip E ( what is chip E) Ive just replaced the DMA chip for the revised version. Hoping this Issue isnt linked to that one! The Ultrasatan works ok so think is a d...

Ok, so my Phillips CM8833 monitor decided to give up the ghost for this test! :-/ so managed to borrow a monitor with a composite input. Hey presto it works! So Dal seems to be right, the machine is ok, but for some reason wont work with the Composite to VGA scaler box EVEN tho my other STe works fi...

Re: Colour not working in low-med rez Atari STe

Good thinking. Cant see any pin soldered to the board come loose. Cant see a way to service the internal pins either. Maybe ill try replacing the socket soon. I feel the problem lies deeper though, as the screen alternates between black & white & poor colour randomly every say 10-40secs. wig...

Re: Colour not working in low-med rez Atari STe

Have to try it on a TV set ? Ok, looks like ive lost everyone on this. Done a few more tests. Dug out my old Philips CM8833 monitor - colour RGB works fine. Also plugged into TV set using standard TV lead and was surprised to find it works fine! Then (hoping it had magicly cured itself) plugged bac...

Re: Colour not working in low-med rez Atari STe

Have to try it on a TV set ? did you read the part where his other STe worked ? anyway, sounds like the RF module has drifted out of trim, i'm a few hundred miles from my Ataris right now, so I can't take pics, but there should be a iny screw visible on the back of the STe that you can adjust, if n...

Hi, an old topic but still relevant. Found this thread searching for reasons why i keep loosing one or more partitions from my cards. Sorry for lack of info & my confusion. The cable is composite RCA connectors. I just connected yellow video out to rca video input on converter box. As i said the converter box is fine as it works ok with the other STe. So the colour from the composite signal is defective. Hope that helps. Is t...

Re: UltraSatan and other ASCI devices

Just managed to successfully install an SCSI card reader to the ICD AdSCSI+ st interface to the DMA port on the atari. Works like ultrasatan but much bigger as i have it mounted in an SCSI external CDrom case. Also get the benefits of ACSI through port to work with megafile or similar, and two SCSI ...

Colour not working in low-med rez Atari STe

Ive been using my STe for years as a music machine with a monochrome monitor. Just got an AV to VGA converter box off ebay for less than £20, so i can use low rez programs like Stereo Master and also play my old games. Plugged it all in and low and behold there's no colour in low / med rez modes. Th...

Ok, looks like that's solved it! Mouse accelerator is the cause of random invertedness. Who'd of guessed it was a screensaver too? Thanks for all the help.
