Re: copying protected floppies -> floppy destruction?

More than an urban myth it is actually a blatant lie that some publishers wanted you to believe. Only now, after a few decades, some floppies are physically so weak that reading it too many times could destroy it. This happens quite a lot with some 8-bit 5.25 disks. But in such cases the disk is al...

Re: Never Ported respectively released for ST

Few more from ST Format: Flashback was mentioned as simply not coming for the ST. I have posted on AF regarding this, the external studio asked for converting the game from the Amiga to ST just slapped a "No, that's too much burden for a result not up to the requirements". Regarding: Secr...

Re: Atari 520 with Glitches

You're not wrong. But I'd like to point out that it's not that black and white. You must have misunderstood me, the whole point I was trying to make is that the recapping issue is not black or white, your caps doesn't go bad from one day to another, and certainly not at a fixed date. It's a gradual...

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

instead "technical bottleneck" I would say it is "optimization side-effect" instead of writing full 32bit destination address into the BLiTTER's destination (or source) register, he writes only lower 16bit, therefore he saves some CPU cycles per the BLiTTER initialization. A sid...

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

Great :) There is a problem with horizontal scrolling ? how can it be ? what is the technical bottleneck ?

Loading graphics on demand = splitting the assets per sprites, there's no other way, or you will go for a 4-6mb of ram unified game.....

Re: Atari 520 with Glitches

Total rubbish. If it isn't broken don't fix it. (with the exception of batteries which can leak). Just keep an eye on them, check for bulges. Chris (and he is not alone) said that recapping must be done. the capacitors went way beyond their life span and they're all dead now. The exterior aspect ca...

Re: Iron Lord

Great. I was looking for 3 floppy English release. Because this: http://atari.8bitchip.info/ASTGA/I/ironlord.php Now I compared all files, and it appears that they are all OK in my from combined sources composed release. Only thing what can think is that there is some nasty copy protection what cou...

Re: Le Nécromancien / Ubisoft

i have a good dump in pasti STX, unfortunately, the disks are seen as modified on track 0 :/ The retail version? Then please post what you have. Or you already did? But please, not the converted STX image only. If you have the RAW images the better, otherwise the CTR one at least. Or you have a Pas...

Re: BAD DMA - Myth or fact ?

Just an update from me. I have an STE which was corrupting the files on my Satandisk when I copied files to the drive from floppy. I have finally replaced the CPU with a MC68HC000FN8 and have just sucessfully copied a large amount of files around without seeing the corruption occur. :D Will keep te...

Hello there. Sorry if I posted in the wrong section, and sorry if I'm not supposed to talk about the upcoming content: I want to play Elvira 2 on Steem. However, the only copy I can find online at all is one 'cracked' by ICS. However, I cannot get past the ICS screen. I tried every key on the keybo...

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

It'll be hard anyway to create an optimal 16-color palete for only one level and it's sprites. Yes indeed. I think I've found a good one. Actually it's the "DawnBringers 16 colours palette" : http://www.atomic-skulls.de/temp/atari_ste_palette.png Here are some remapped MAME screenshots us...

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

Yes that's what i noticed too. The unified palette is just overbig. the palette must only concern the actual level + enemies.

same way, each boss is always alone on screen, only the horrible slug has some minions, but those are in the palette :)

Re: Atari 520 with Glitches

seriously, first, you must service them before using them. If the PSU have not been recapped, do it. same for the motherboards.

If you still have any problem, then the capacitors will be ruled out.

Re: Source code of Vroom!

Hello guys, After the video 'Hstory of Vroom', we are back in touch with the original creator Daniel Macré. He sent the source code of the game. I don't have the knowledge to check if this is everything needed. (I do think a lot is missing, as the filenames start with 4 and 5). I'm just here to sha...
