CuBase hardware, Steem, and the Parallel Port

I'm curious if anyone has ever gotten any software under STeem to work with: Steinberg SMP 24 Steinberg MIDI 3 interface C-Lab Export I tried the MIDI 3 box on a parallel port under Windows XP. With several dogleless CuBase Cracks (MCA 2.01, Jean's CAF, and Vectronix 3.1), here is what happens: CuBa...

Re: Mega ST Display Problems

Beej, I had similar issue ( horizontal stripes) twenty years ago, it was caused by a wrong cable. In this case it's an Atari SM124 monitor. The cable is hard-wired into the monitor (can't be taken off and mixed up with other cables). This same monitor works beautifully when plugged into my STacy an...

Re: Mega ST Display Problems

change the GLUE then the SHIFTER if it persists it will be one or the other looks to me like a lack of a blanking pulse this signal is generated by the GLUE and the shifter then uses it seems there is flyback lines also on the frame so its blanking problems for sure i think the shifter is prob the ...

Re: STacy screen hacks?

Awesome news - congrats on bringing the beaST back to life! :) Thanks.... I'm hoping to find someone that can refurbish old power supplies so I can have a spare working one on hand. The trouble with all this old tech is that I'll drag it out to 'use it' on a project and nothing works....by the time...

Re: STacy screen hacks?

OK, good news and bad. The power supplies are OK. I found a bad connection. I'm still trying to pinpoint exactly what is bad but I think it is the wire that goes from the back of the motherboard to the main switch. It seems to be soldered in beneath a donut looking thing with copper wire wrapped ar...

Mega ST Display Problems

Any ideas on what might cause a Mega ST 4 to have bands in the display? They look like this: http://www.atari-forum.com/download/file.php?mode=view&id=24008&sid=83ca5de626a53c7e590e15863fe9364d http://www.atari-forum.com/download/file.php?mode=view&id=24009&sid=83ca5de626a53c7e590e15...

Re: STacy screen hacks?

OK, I spoke too soon. Now the 'good' STacy isn't doing anything at all. I suspect a bad power supply. Not sure yet if it's the external one or the internal one. They both are quite old, have many hours on them, and have never been 'rebuilt'. Darklord, haven't you retrofitted some substitute internal...

Re: CosmosEx - new device for your Atari ST

Er...I'm using an internal ACSI cable with the Ultrasatan in my STacy right now. Courtesy of Alan H. :) I put SatanDisk on a Mega's internal bus. Fortunately the pinout for both the SatanDisk and the Mega's internal ASCI bus was easy to find and I just made a cable for it. I can do the same for the...

Re: Falcon Case project: Assorted questions

Thanks wongck... Makes sense. I did find a way to use it on the IDE bus (just install HDDriver to something on the SCSI chain and good to go). I happened to have an IDE/SCSI converter thing for DVD drives so I've decided to just pop that on and use it. It seems to be working quite well though I have...

Re: CosmosEx - new device for your Atari ST

This is way cool. I'm interested in this for a STacy 4. It's all still stock inside. Can I just pull the internal SCSI card off the header in the STacy and put one of these in its place? If so, which kit/parts are best to order for a STacy? is there a way to order it with that internal type cable on...

Re: STacy screen hacks?

I hear ya DarkLord! It's flooding back to memory now as I dig out the stuff. Seems like I had picked this second one up cheap for spare parts (and other goodies that came with it). When it was sold to me the keyboard and screen were known to be bad. I put new mylar in the keyboard so it's good to ha...

Re: Falcon Case project: Assorted questions

I used a HDD as master an DVD as slave before on my Falcon internal IDE header. It not a matter of software but whether the IDE master device can function as the master. Looks like your CF cannot function as a master device. Most normal IDE devices like HDD and DVD drives are able to function as ma...

STacy screen hacks?

Going through the old Atari Boxes........what fun! I found a pair of STacy 4 machines. One works...original screen and all (though it may need a new electrostatic back-light in the not so distant future)! The second STacy won't drive the screen. I tried swapping out the screens....cable harness and ...

Re: Falcon Case project: Assorted questions

Thanks everyone for the helpful answers! Overview It's up and running, but I've still got a bit to do. For now I've not moved warm reset to the front of the case, set up Eiffel to run the fan, or hooked up the fancy case turbo buttons/displays and such. I'll hold off on that to see if this thing is ...

Falcon Case project: Assorted questions

Overview: I found a box of random Atari stuff acquired over the years and decided to build myself a Falcon 030 out of it all. So, the Falcon 030 has a CT2B with FPU on it. I got it all wedged into a massive AT PC tower, hacked up an old 135w ATX power supply to get juice to it, hooked some kind of P...

Re: STEVIE or VIM where to get it?

You have 4MB of ram ? May be that's too little ram to do some development. Mint really needs 14MB to be absolutely useful, but I used it on my STFM with 4 MB long time ago. May be you want to use Pure C on TOS? I remember running KEMD (Mint 1.12 based I think..could probably go back even further fo...

Re: STEVIE or VIM where to get it?

Just gone through the basic install of MiNT. Not winning me over in that I have managed to lock up and crash the machine by doing simple things (IE ask XaAES to show me the environment and then pressing the down arrow! firing up an ST TOS Shell app and having the screen go white and just ring). Not...

Re: Wanted: Steinberg Avalon 2.1 program data

To be able to load and save samples rapidly from/to my sampler (an akai s1000) I have tried to connect the ST to the Akai using a SCSI bus (through an ICD adapter) but unfortunately without success :( Also tried with zero-x without much success I see... I have one of those Euro made SCSI adaptors.....

Re: Wanted: Steinberg Avalon 2.1 program data

Greetings, "Can not load 'AVALON.IMG' - ABORT'" AVALON.IMG is present, but from what I understand the version on the Steinberg site is corrupt and may be where everyone has downloaded the file. I have verified that the dongle is working properly with Avalon 2.0 As such, if anyone has a wo...

Re: Wanted: Steinberg Avalon 2.1 program data

Greetings, The intention of the Avalon D/A converter is to allow immediate sample playback without having to send it to the sampler first, since the owner will be doing sample editing and resynthesis, and presumably will need to hear the sample hundreds of times per session, so the delays involved ...

Re: Cubase Audio Falcon vs PC

The audio quality of the Falcon stereo output does not bother me, because I have a SoundPool SPDIF and Steinberg FA8 and they sound great. I got lucky with the SoundPool as it is 24-bit compatible, which means my ART DPSII digital valve 24-bit preamp works with it via optical connections. It's a sh...

Re: Cubase Audio Falcon vs PC

I tend to use sequencers that can record longer takes, i.e. a whole verse/bridge/chorus etc in one go, and so I do not use trackers at all; my music is not loop or pattern based. No problem, CAF can do really long takes as well. The thing about Quincy and V-TRAX that turned me off in my short evalu...
