Re: New thread about 16*16 sprite record

Well, nice try with the Amiga sprite record. If only they used the same curve, without symmetry....

No doubt they can pull some good amount of sprites but let's compare apples and apples.

Re: Who invented the border removal techniques ?

Ok. I indeed mistook synch lock and stabilizers.

It sounds great. Looking forward to this in action.
OTOH for some effects, the 230 bytes width can be an advantage ;) but, I guess your technique could also produce overscan lines of a not-multiple-of-8 bytes.

Re: Who invented the border removal techniques ?

10. STe left/right without stabilizer - invented by DHS - not yet used (will be in a while) - trivia: not really a new effect, but it's a faster way of doing overscan on STe shifters. It also lines up to a more even 224 byte linewidth. Do you mind telling a bit about it ? If it needs no stabilizer,...

Re: Preshifting with blitter?

Great. Then you don't need to clip in X, your restore routine will clean the mess outside of the currently visible area, and the CPU time would be pretty stable which is something you're apparently looking for.

Re: Preshifting with blitter?

I haven't fiddled much with the special features of the STE, so sorry if I'm saying bulls, but Zamuel_a are you sure you need to clip the sprites horizontally at all ? I thought it was possible to set the number of words per line on STE ? Then, if it is possible, virtually make the screen a larger (...

Re: Two new 16-colour images from Outline 2008...

spiny+bullis1: It's really easy to match the limitations of an STf/e in PhotoShop. I believe the compo was for STe. Anyway I made my image for STf and submitted it in PI1 and GIF. To me PhotoShop is just another tool. I've used Degas and Deluxe Paint for years ( never got into NeoChrome ). When pus...

Re: Two new 16-colour images from Outline 2008...

spiny: Thanks. I started with a pic I found on the net. Unfortunately I lost the original in the course of various re-install in the last 2-3 years. There was some scaling and a bit of color/contrast correction/posterize then it's all about having a window at 100% ( to see the result ) and one at 1...

Re: Two new 16-colour images from Outline 2008...

Here's the pic I presented at Outline 2oo8. http://www.p01.org/releases/Demoscene/files/huh.gif It's a paint over job I started 2-3 years ago. There's still some areas I don't really like but all in all I'm rather happy with the style, composition and pixel love ( aka dithering ). As usual the dithe...

Re: Address of the default palette ?

Thanks guys. The thing is I'm investigating for some bootsector intros and size is crucial in this case. I was hoping there was a simple and size efficient way to get the location of the default palette in ROM, hence nulling the need to backup the palette. Oh well, I'll to stick to the following 18 ...

Address of the default palette ?

Hi, I can't seem to find the address of the default palette in ROM. As far as I can see in the Atari ST Internals, it's not part of the system variables ( $400 - $502 ). However I found it by searching for the first few colors in an image of 2 TOS. But it'd be nice to have a, short and, reliable way...

I don't work on the browser itself. Wizzcat OTOH works on the core. He's one of people responsible for us passing Acid2. Too bad Nintendo changed their mind for the help of the Wii browser. AFAIK there's only a few semi-active ST sceners there: D-Bug/NeXT, EVIL/DHS ( I think that's him, at least there's s1 from DHS :p ), and myself P01/RIBBON ( ex Poï poï/Amnesic Cactus ). I think what's most important in a boot are the _membot ( .L in $432 ) and _memtop ( .L in $436 ). This is where you can generate you data and the address of the screen. BTW, has anyone ever encountered a _memtop that was different from _v_bas_ad ( .L in $44e ) ? I havent, at least in a boot sector.

yep it depends on the TOS. Cyclone wrote a detailled article about boot sectors, including start address, in an article of Alive 10 ( I think, as I can't find it in 11,12 or 13 ).

How does Alive not work correctly on your 1040 ST ? Surely it's not perfect, nothing is, but it works well! Once minor grief I have with Alive's GUI is that it could benefit from breaking the top/bottom borders, but it might be tricky on an STf since Alive allows 3-4bpl images in the body of the art...

Small question not worth creating a new thread. In Ooma 2 , I set the frequency of the channel A 45 times per VBL, what replay frequency does it actually give ? I doubt it's 45x50 'coz that would mean that to replay a sound at 25khz one would have to update the frequency ( and volume ) of a single c...

:? but it's so much more elegant to inline the data in the final PRG file. And you'll have to check the LST file anyway to make sure people didn't sneak some 68k code in their external data files.

Marcer: I understand these rules. It might be a bit painful to generate all the LUTs a screen might need ( think about raytraced based effects e.g.s tunnels, worm hole, wobbly scrollers with reflection, ... ) Also it does not prevent to generate compiled GFA code towers. One can look for some marke...
