Re: Re:

SNES (which was released only one year after A500) was a twice or more better. it's extremly hard to compare the two systems, and even harder with numbers! ( twice or more ). What feature are you speaking? If you speak about CPU power, SNES is more than twice slower than AMIGA :) Of course SNES is ...

Re: about the blitter ^^

lets say we have a block of code where we can distinguish two parts: A) copy a block of memory B) some CPU calculation (e.g. depacking) It is interesting which variant will be faster: 1) A done by the CPU and then B done by the CPU or 2) A done by the BLiTTER and B done by the CPU - both points in p...

Re: Re:

but we can use movem.l with lot of registers - then CPU is some 10-15% slower. yep, but in this case all the CPU registers are blocked and as you mentioned CPU blitting is 10-15% slower. Therefore, the BLiTTER ensures you faster blitting and free CPU for other tasks. But Atari was not designed as g...

Re: Minimal multitask configuration for Hatari

that would destroy the main purpose of the FastForward idea It wouldn't. I'm only talking about timers here, not about CPU emulation. But of course it might be possible that it would interfere with timings of demos, when skipping their splash screen or whatever. exactly, in case of demos, timers sh...

And just to clarify that FastForward subject.

"Fatal Error" message shows without that FastForward mode. I use FF only for booting process and as soon as the Desktop shows, I press "Alt GR" + "X" to toggle into normal mode.

Re: Minimal multitask configuration for Hatari

Unusable for what? Main use-case for fast-forward is fast-forwarding the boring, *non-interactive* parts like TOS, application & games startups, and speed-viewing (non-interactive) demos. Unusable for GEM applications. I know that this is not the primary purpose for Hatari. FastForward is dedic...

Re: Steem SSE 3.9

How it works: in a HOG mode the BLiTTER counts every memory access used by the CPU. And after 64th it takes the control over the bus if I remember correctly for 65 bus cycles (1 cycle for bus mastering, 63 for data operations and 1 for bus mastering), later it releases the bus and again counts every...

Re: Steem SSE 3.9

another tests for HOG mode. The BLiTTER copies black color to the Shifter color register 0, also the CPU changes the Shifter color register 0 every 8 cycles (white/gray). As you can see below, on the STE every BLiTTER pass starts every 130 bus cycles (black lines starts exactly at the left edge of w...

I did a first test it is almost ok. That test run blitting and MULU instruction in parallel (marked red), and it looks ok. Steem shows two more black stripes than real hardware. Re: Steem SSE 3.9

thanks Steven, - Blitter: In blit mode, the blitter can interrupt an operation between read and write. The CPU can surrender bus control during an instruction. Steem emulates this, but it's not 100% accurate. this part is most interested for me. I have some CPU/Blitter interaction tests for HOG and ...

Re: Apollo Team announces developing of Vampire standalone version to run as AMIGA and ATARI ST

Do you know that in the Cyclone FPGA chip on Vampire is still a lot of space left to upload VHDL code for Shifter, Videl, Combel, Yamaha, DSP, ... ? do you know someone needs to create VHDL for those chips? All these chips aleady have been syntetisized in VHDL. Look at MiST. Look at Suska. Look at ...
