Re: Steem and Sleeping in Windows 10

Cool that MIDI works ok now. I've just checked Steem 4.0.0 32bit and it wake up correctly under Win 10 64bit. But, in the past I had similar problem with sleep. There were some problems with Steem's directx. Which exactly version do you use? 4.0.0 or 4.0.1 32bit or 64bit? And which WIndows 10? 32bit...

Re: LZ4 decoder (assembler)

https://github.com/arnaud-carre/lz4-68k/blob/master/lz4_fastest.asm which assembler do you use? Devpac and VASM return a lot of errors. My guess is that due "space" before and after that "minus" sign. VASM: error 3005: reloc type 1, size 16, mask 0xffffffff (symbol sl_sm0 + 0x18...

Re: Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge - STE enhanced (WIP)

@chicane your approach sounds good, more generic and could be better for the final version. Mine was prepared just for testing purposes. Do a patch and easily/quickly test it and measure its impact onto the game. It bombs out due to lack of inserted floppy - just put "Lotus III - The Ultimate C...

Re: LZ4 decoder (assembler)

Hi Cyprian, thanks for the numbers. Here's an optimized version of the decoder. You may do some tests with it as well!? ;) ... Profile data suggest that it gives an speed improvement of up to 18% compared to the one in the original post. It also still fits in a MC68030 cache. :D Cheers Sascha Hey S...

Re: Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge - STE enhanced (WIP)

Attached you can find my Lotus snapshot (binaries and sourcecode) loader for 1MB ST. It leaves upper 512KB RAM for patches. LZ4 decoder is by Anima from there As you can see I've added as an example a sky gradient (in MODECODE.s file - it is dedicated for patches). Schowek-4.png Works fine on Steem,...

Re: Microwire Interface

@Arne where did you get that nice image? There are a few possibilities to reuse unused bit combinations for addressing additional chip: 1) There are two bits for a device definition. %10 means LMC, other combinations are unused and maybe can be used: https://info-coach.fr/atari/hardware/STE-HW.php#f...

Re: Microwire Interface

If I'm not wrong, STE Microwire interface is unidirectional. Therefore there is no possible to get current status from the device behind it.

@seedy1812 it can be adopted to bitplanes too by preparing 16 versions, each skewed by 1px.

Re: Sprites - blitter or CPU?

that nonHOG counting is implemented in the latest Hatari and Steem. E.g. DIV can significantly delay each BLiTTER's pass.

Nice idea is to use so called "compiled sprites" described by LaceySnr.
If I remember correctly Anima used that in conversion: Cho Ren Sha 68k for the Atari Falcon030

Re: LZ4 decoder (assembler)

I'm using the following command to pack the data files. upx -q --nrv2b --small --data infile -ooutfile a0 packed data a1 destination addresss which UPX do you use? I've tried UPX 3.96w on Windows 10 and it shows me: >upx -q --nrv2b --small --data test.bin -otest.upx upx: unrecognized option '--data...

Re: Sprites - blitter or CPU?

Preshifting is not needed and with it you lost some cycles for read additional sprite/mask word per line. CPU sprites can be faster, because you read the mask only once for all bitplanes (the BLiTTER reads one mask per one bitplane) But using the BLiTTER in HOG mode allows you to do blitting and cal...

Re: Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge - STE enhanced (WIP)

nice routine. actually Lotus I works fine with 512KB ST. I have extracted a 512KB memory snapshot, and I've prepared a loader for it. It allows me to load a snapshot to the RAM, run my patch code and start Lotus on any ST compatible machine with 1MB or more RAM. Now I have a small problem with ACIA....

Re: Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge - STE enhanced (WIP)

the purpose was 1) to improve performance by the BLiTTER usage; 2) move the BLiTTER code to the bottom/top border area, so as not to interfere the Timer B interrupts (stable rasters) I dug around a bit and realised that could not be to easy to implement that. There are three Timer B interrupts per f...
